Blast hits Makati Mall

A massive explosion hits the Glorietta 2 Mall in Makati City, yesterday, 19 October 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Initially the cause was said to be a gas (LPG) leak from one of the restaurants in the area but was latter ruled out when traces RDX (used by the military and miners) component was found in the area by PNP (Philippine National Police) Chemists, yet PNP Chief Gen. Avelino Razon Jr. does not confirm that C4 explosives caused that blast. Casualties at the end of day totaled 8 dead, which rose to 9 the following day, over 100 injured (most were already released by hospitals nearby) and 3 of the wounded still in the hospital as per Red Cross, Makati Medical Center, and PNP. Some maybe still to be recovered.

The incident pressed the PNP to tighten security in Metro Manila malls and other public places. Reward money amounting to PHP2 Million (others say its PHP3 Million) is up for anyone who can give info on suspects of the blast. Fernando Zobel de Ayala vows to help victims of the blast.
